Art Opening at Summer Studio

It was a night filled with music, poetry, art and food at Summer Studio.  I tiptoed out by only telling a few friends that I would be included in the show, shy or reluctant to put myself out in public with my art.  A baby step.  My was heart filled when friends came to see me.   Many thanks to all of you who made it.

Street art

Street art attracts me whether I am in Switzerland or in Venice Beach.   I have to record them by taking photos.   While driving on Main Street in Santa Monica with my friend Evie I saw this.  I know I should not do this but as my car slowed to a stop, I took an iphone shot.  The words struck me~~ Remember Who You Are.  I have said those very same words to myself.

And this made me smile while I waited for my friend to meet me.

A Series

I am painting a series of colorful creatures.  Here is one of  my guys.  I start painting with colors I love and do not have a preconceived idea of what's to come.  There are layers and layers of color that you probably cannot see in this photo.  Eventually a shape emerges, sometimes it transforms totally to a whole other shape.  It's a thrilling process.

Inscrutable

I entered this mixed media piece into my first art show with the Experimental Artists of the South Bay.    The Reception will be held this Friday, June 24 at 7-9:30 PM.  I am excited about venturing out and hope you can make it.  The show runs through July 28.

Visit from the East

I love this 1920's photo of my mother looking to the side as if she is daydreaming while she stands with her older sister, two brothers and three Japanese sailors.  I used Lisa Bebi's technique of first spraying yellow liquid water color on the photo which was printed on regular printing paper from an inkjet printer.  Then overpainted with acrylics and shaded with a graphite pencil and a white pen.
