A Rainy Weekend

journals made and completed in 2012

southern california is having a much need stormy

week.  i have been staying in and shifting my studio to a new

space with delicious morning light.  i am so very excited

and will post pictures once it is presentable.

i've tried my hand at charcoal drawing with the encouragement

of misty mawn in her face to face workshop.

i have been haunted by an image i saw

of this woman at the autry museum.

a woman with a story.

carole, my friend from toronto says canadians love their tea.

she introduced me to red rose.  i am sipping my tea

while i write this post today.

thank you for stopping by.
wishing you a lovely weekend.

Taking Stock

we are twenty five days into a new year.  three weeks

ago, i considered making a new years resolutions

or choosing a word to describe what i would like to

accomplish or manifest this year. my decision was to

spend as much time as i could with friends, family,

paints and create and learn what pulls at my heart.

this makes me happy :)

look backward, forward

take stock, be in the present

the only haven

as i frequently do on fridays i join rebecca brooks at  haiku my heart

Confession

atc with acrylic, collage, ink, stencil

it's a new year and we have nothing but time

i was invited to join an international atc group by my
prolific artist friend, john.  while i love to be included in fun
activities, i have to admit that i am afraid of atcs.  but this year
i am facing my fears, big and little.  i asked brian and john, both members of
a gentleman's atc group for suggestions.  basically, i started and went from
there.  brian said he thinks of atcs as little works of art.  i like that.
like many things in life, the fear was greater than
the actual experience.  i can't tell you how many times have i stopped
myself from doing something that could have proven
to be fun, a learning experience, could have led to
other avenues.  well, it is never to late.

Haiku My Heart

today i join rebecca's clan of
wordsmiths who write haikus from the heart
i hope you visit some of the sites

paint filled hands create

fanciful creatures that spark

imagination

and

i am loving this book,

principles of uncertainty

by maira kalman

the title alone. . . .

here is the first page

it reads

how can i tell you everything that is
in my heart.  impossible to begin.  enough.
no begin.
withe the hapless dodo
galumphing innocently around
mauritius sporting a
ridiculous plume.  then-
out of the blue- man arrives
with a hankering for a
dodo sandwich and
poof!
by 1681 extinct.
no more dodo.

During the Fleeting Span We Are Given

lean into this life

meander, wander, dwell in

possibility

i have written before that
i am fascinated with faces.  included in my journal
pages are images of faces, i draw them, i am drawn to them.
i paint funny faces, i doodle faces.

so when i saw that misty mawn is offering face to face
an online workshop in painting, drawing,
delving into faces.  i jumped right in.

i can't recommend misty enough

It Starts With A Tree

Danny Gregory's book, Creative License is teaching me to
look around.  While getting into my car I saw this pine tree.
Normally I would get in and drive off but I sat a while and
as I sat,  begin to see more and more details in the trunk.

A quick sketch and I almost stopped

without noticing at first the three background trees,
and the hill, the flags, the greenery.  I could sketch this again
and again adding color details, selecting different parts, abstracting
the tree, endless possibilities, widening vision, taking time to see.

Wishing you a lovely Sunday.
